In this review I discuss the methodological approaches that have been applied in Fisheries And Environmental Management Group, University of Helsinki. The group focuses on the interaction between ecosystems and human society. The main research interests include: cross disciplinary risk and decision analysis, integration of evidence from models and Bayesian data analysis, environmental risk analysis (especially oils spills risk analysis) and the management of human - ecosystem interactions. FEM focuses

This paper gives overviews, and discusses the pros and cons of Bayesian approach, and the challenge of learning in crossdiciplinary research group, in the field of strongly applied sciences and a biological Faculty.
